Instructor Spotlights

2018

Adam Kopfman

October 2018

Hello my name is Adam Kopfman and I'm one of the Body Step instructors here at North Dodge. I have been part of the Les Mills family now for 3 years. I also teach at performance gym in North Liberty. Aside from doing step I own Tip Top Cakes in Coralville. I have had my business for 9 years this year. When I'm not at work or sweating in the classrooms, I love spending time with my husband (who happens to be a Body Flow instructor) and our two amazing kids.

Life is busy but we have found out take time for yourself and give yourself that hour or so to workout. I hope to see you in one of my Thursday morning classes starting at 8:30.

Cheers!

Amber McDonald

August 2018

Hi there! My name is Amber McDonald and you can catch me teaching Bodypump on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at NDAC! As a native of Iowa City, and a member of North Dodge Athletic Club years ago, it is such an honor to come back to this amazing gym as an instructor! I see many familiar faces, and it’s been fun catching up with some members I took classes alongside years ago.

I completed my Les Mills Bodypump training in September of 2016 and officially became an instructor in November of that year. Before becoming certified as an instructor, I had been taking Bodypump classes for over 15 years. I love the mix of weights and cardio and I love that I can do Bodypump at any hour of the day (even those early AM classes are fun and enjoyable!)

My husband, Tyson, and I have been married for eight years and we live in North Liberty with our daughter, Maya, and two dogs Myley & Puckett. We love being active as a family, although many of our family walks end up at Dairy Queen!

As my day job, I work for a local food distributor and service several schools and healthcare facilities in the area. I love Hawkeye football and Chicago Cubs baseball, spending time with family and friends, and staying active. Yoga, kickboxing, and HIIT classes are my jam! I look forward to seeing you guys at the gym soon!

Andrea Short

July 2018

I have a love for movement and want to spread that love by instilling in others an intrinsic motivation and passion for all being wellness.  I believe the goal of exercise shouldn’t be solely weight loss, to gain muscle, to train for a race- but simply for the love of movement in and of itself.

I hold a MS in Health, Exercise, and Sport Science, and currently am the Health and Physical Activity Skills coordinator for the University, where I teach college students lifelong skills that they will need once school is over.  I have three awesome kids who I also teach to love their bodies and what their awesome selves can do!  My favorite format has to be BodyCombat, though I also love CX, Pump, and cycle too!

Please join me for a variety of classes I teach/rotate at NDAC!

Sadie Woodley

June 2018

My name is Sadie, and I’m happy to tell you about myself! I’m an Iowa transplant from Chicago, and I live in Iowa City with my husband and three kids. I’m in a PhD program at the university, and between school, kids, and fitness, I stay pretty busy!

Exercise and wellness are my passions. I think it’s so important, especially when you’re busy, to focus on renewal and building strength. I also believe in the importance of community. I can tell that North Dodge is wonderful group of people who are very friendly and encouraging towards each other, and I’m so excited to be on board!

You will see me teaching BodyPump & BodyStep, come try one of my classes!

Karen Klouda

May 2018

Karen received her 200 hour yoga certification from Heartland Yoga 3 years ago. She attended specialized training and certification  in 2016 for therapeutic yoga and chair yoga. The goal is to increase functional movement and strength through yoga.  Her classes incorporate breathing techniques, flexibility and stretching with an emphasis on balance, posture and alignment using  slower progressive movements.

Classes consist of a warm up to lubricate the joints and muscular structure in a relaxed environment. It is an inclusive class for all ages and levels of exposure to yoga with encouragement to use props and modifications.  Participants work to their own level of challenge to feel success in the class, not comparison to others.

Karen has her Juris Doctor from the Iowa Law School and after 27 years in Career Services Administration counseling students and assisting in their legal careers, retired four years ago from the Law School.  Her other degrees are in Psychology and Social Work with ten years experience in Correctional Services.  Her passion is supporting others in finding confidence and joy in their yoga experiences and life.  She welcomes you to join her in class which is usually on some weekends at various times.

She has been thrilled to bring yoga into as many aspects of her life as possible, and believes her time on the yoga mat prepares her to have patience and strength in her life off the mat.  She enjoys teaching mixed level Vinyasa classes, incorporating strong flow and breath work, challenging strength and balance poses, open minds and hearts. She believes yoga is for everyone and has been so grateful to the members of North Dodge for having fun with themselves and each other in her classes.
